The Nolan Group Timeline
- 1881
Thomas Peacock established a textile recycling business in Melbourne.
- 1890
Thomas Peacock’s eldest son, Thomas Edwin Peacock relocated the business to Perth.Moving Forward
- 1920
William Bernard Nolan establishes Nolan O’Rourke & Co Pty Ltd in partnership with W. Ralph Smith. The company was based out of Sydney and was primarily set up to be a supplier of motor body hardware.
- 1950
The Perth branch re‐opened and Nolan Shannon (W.A.) Pty Ltd was incorporated.
- 1953
Nolan Butler Pty Ltd is established in Melbourne.
- 1955
The Nolan Newcastle branch is opened on Beaumont Street, Hamilton.
- 1962
The Nolan Brisbane branch is opened.
- 1973
As the agency side of the business was rapidly growing, the trading name of Upholstering Distributors of WA was changed to Upholstering Distributors Australia Pty Ltd.
- 1997
Opening of UDA Queensland branch with purchase of M.L. Scanlan Pty Ltd.
- 1998
Opening of UDA New South Wales branch with purchase of Cope Musgrave Pty Ltd
- 2000
Opening of the UDA South Australian branch with purchase of Lodge & Hill Pty Ltd.
- 2006
The Nolan Newcastle branch relocates to a 954sqm warehouse in Lambton.
- 2006
The Marine, Motor and Industrial divisions of M. Simonson were acquired by Nolan Warehouses.
- 2009
The trading operations of Nolan O’Rourke and Co. Pty Ltd and Upholstering Distributors Australia Pty Ltd merge into a 50-50 joint venture under the name Nolan.UDA Pty Ltd effective 1 August, 2009.
- 2009
The Film and Fabrics Division of Nylex Australia was purchased by Nolan O’Rourke & Co, ensuring the survival of iconic brands including: Mariner, Cordova, Capri & Road Runner.
- 2010
Both branches in Brisbane, Springwood and Geebung move into a 2800m2 purpose built warehouse in Yatala.
- 2010
Nolan.UDA celebrates their first anniversary. Nolan.UDA Sydney branches merge under the one roof. The Prospect branch was closed and all staff and stock were integrated into the larger Alexandria operation.
- 2016
Nolan.UDA purchase the Melbourne based Radin’s company.
- 2017
Nolan.UDA undertake a name change to the ‘Nolan Group’. This was done to accommodate recent and future acquisitions.
- 2017
The Nolan Group purchase long standing knitted shade cloth supplier Polyfab Australia.
